My Favorite Podcasts to Listen to Right Now
Are you a big podcast listener? I listen to probably a few hours of podcasts on average per day—I love listening to them while I get ready in the morning, on my commute, while I'm working (if I'm doing more mindless tasks) and on my way home.
Here are some of my favorite podcasts right now—some new, and some I've listened to for years!
If you're going to listen to just one podcast, dedicate 20 minutes of your morning to listen to The New York Times Daily podcast. It's just 20 minutes each day, it's up super early in the morning, and it covers the top news stories of the day. It's my favorite in terms of feeling educated and ready for the day.
2. Pod Save America.
I'm a huge political podcast junkie, and around the 2016 election, I start listening to a little podcast called Keepin' it 1600. It was started by a few guys who used to be speechwriters and handle foreign policy for Obama, and it was my favorite way to dig a little deeper into the election and how the politics of it all actually affect all of us.
They have now started their own company, Crooked Media, and started a slew of new podcasts, including my favorite—Pod Save America. Give it a listen!
Also from the Crooked Media empire, Pod Save the World covers foreign policy. I love it for understanding how things like Russia affect our election and what the impact of what's happening around the world really is for us.
Note: while I always feel much smarter after listening to Pod Save the World, you have to really listen to catch all of the knowledge nuggets, so try to listen when you're uninterrupted and can focus.
Last one from Crooked Media—Lovett or Leave It. Definitely the most fun of the three podcasts, a former Hillary Clinton staffer holds panels on Friday night with well-known celebrities, comedians and people in the political world to cover current events in a really fun way. If you're looking for a fun way to understand the news and keep it a bit lighter, this one is for you.
Everything from sports to pop culture to food to entertainment is covered in the Bill Simmons podcast—it has something for everyone. My favorite episodes are from Aziz Ansari around Master of None Season 2, and this new episode with James Corden. This is one podcast where I don't listen to every single episode—I just pick and choose the people's interviews I want to listen to.
