The 5 Pieces I'm Happy I Invested in This Fall

I totally understand the "girl on a budget" mentality - I just moved into a new apartment and started a new job, so costs have been at an all-time high lately and I'm trying to save anywhere I can. Of course, that's not easy when we just transitioned into a new season and I'm a blogger (lol), so when I went hunting for some fall statement pieces, I kept the price tags in mind and found 5 pieces that I can wear over and over again this season - and that I can dress up or down to get the most out of.

Here are the five things I'm happy I invested in this season:

1. Brown Steve Madden booties ($90).

I'm not kidding when I say I've been on the hunt for some flat brown booties for about nine months now. I don't know why, but for some reason this was a piece I was extremely picky about. Most of my booties are heeled, so I knew I wanted something flat that I could wear to walk for a ways and still be comfortable. For some reason, most other booties I tried had a weird cut - they were either too tall or too short. These Steve madden brown booties (I got mine at Nordstrom) were just right, and at $90 I had no reason to pass them up!

2. Steve Madden navy blue velvet loafers ($90).

Two trends I'm loving for this fall: crushed velvet + loafers. I knew I was never going to splurge on the Gucci ones, and all other velvet pieces (tops, sweaters, boots) kind of intimidated me. So I opted for these Steve Madden navy blue velvet loafers during the Shopbop sale, and I'm so happy I did! They are super comfortable, easy to slide on and off and head out, and they go with just about every fall outfit I can come up with.

3. A Madewell denim jacket ($118).

Another thing I've been hunting for for years: a denim jacket. I love how easy they are to throw on and go, but I'm extremely picky about the color - most are too light and only work in the warmer months, and I wanted something I could don year-round. A stop in Madewell the other day did the trick, and I headed out with this denim jacket. Perfection!

4. A Madewell striped tee ($35).

The older I get, the more I have a uniform: a striped tee, dark skinny jeans, and either booties or pointy flats. Throw on a leather jacket and you're good to go just about anywhere! This Madewell striped tee is super soft (I sleep in it, too) and goes perfectly with my fall wardrobe.

5. This WAYF shirt dress ($79).

I've seen this WAYF shirt dress on a million bloggers, all with such different styles, and I knew I had to have it. It's ladylike (but not too girly) and goes perfectly with a leather jacket and booties. You could also style it with Valentino rockstud flats and a sweater for brunch in the city. Plus, the black lace tie pulls the look together (and feels almost Parisian).
