A Charity You Should Get Involved With: NextGen Climate

Happy Monday, all! I am so excited to continue this week and bring charities your way that I believe in. We can all be doing more to help out, and I hope you take the time to volunteer at at least one of these amazing organizations I share this week.

NextGen Climate

NextGen Climate's goal is to prevent climate disasters -- it's that simple. According to their website, 2016 has been the hottest year on record so far. That scares me, and it should scare you, too. A lot of issues matter to me personally, but if we don't take care of our planet, none of those issues will matter anymore. Climate change seems to be a forgotten issue sometimes, but it should be at the forefront of our minds before it's too late.

If you're still not convinced climate change is the issue you should care about, this stat from NextGen's website lit a fire under me:

“The heat accumulating in the Earth because of human emissions is roughly equal to the heat that would be released by 400,000 Hiroshima atomic bombs exploding across the planet every day.” — Justin Gillis

If you still have questions, NextGen Climate does a great job breaking down the five things you need to know about climate change.

Volunteer with NextGen Climate

If you want to get involved, you can volunteer with NextGen Climate. If you're in San Francisco, NextGen Climate is actually headquartered here and is always looking for employees and interns - browse their jobs here!

Other Ways You Can Get Involved

There are small things you can do every day to help our planet, like picking the kinds of energy-efficient light bulbs you use in your house wisely, to limiting how much you drive (walk! bike! carpool! take the bus!) or being aware of garbage vs. compost vs. recycling and doing your part. Every little thing matters, so take it seriously and get involved today!

Bonus Organization: Sierra Club

Another great organization I stumbled upon that's helping save our planet is Sierra Club. Beyond just climate change, they are doing their part in taking care of millions of acres of wilderness, passing environmental legislation like the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and Endangered Species Act, and are helping move our planet away from fossil fuels. Volunteer or donate now to help the Sierra Club continue the great work they're doing!
