December always means so many holiday parties, blog events, dinners with friends and occasions to get all dolled up. To be honest, I typically stick with what I know, do my own hair and makeup, and, if anything, get a bright red manicure (pictured below) to get in the holiday spirit.

This year, however, I wanted to break the rules a little bit, so I headed to Target’s Beauty Concierge to ask an expert for some beauty tips.

This OPI red is what I would typically go with -- it's classic, stays on, and goes with any party dress. However, instead, my Target Beauty Concierge taught me how fun it would be to do a mani with a dark hue (like this OPI black), with a hint of sparkle on a statement nail with this Essie polish.

Next, lips. My go-to is a pink or red, like this #325 hue on the left. But how chic would #250, sultry sienna, be with a dark mani?

Lastly, eyes. To be honest, I never wear eye shadow. On my pale skin I've always found it harsh and too dramatic. But sometimes I want to glam things up a bit, especially for a holiday party. This Sonia Kashuk eye shadow quad is the perfect tester -- some lighter shades, like white and gold, for when I want to be on the safer side, and this awesome dark gold and brown for a special night out.

Lastly, these color molten palettes from Maybelline offer soft, girly tones that would pair well with a black dress for some extra holiday glam.
