How I Stay Organized with Ashley Brooke Designs

If you know anything about me, it's probably that I'm Type-A and an organizational freak. Seriously, I'm meticulous about it, and I get so excited when I get a new notebook to make lists in. When I was little, I used to beg my parents to take me to the office supply store so I could get new notebooks and pens -- I lived for it! (Alright, enough about how much of a nerd I am...)

One of the things I get asked the most is how I stay organized and on top of it all, juggling a full-time job and blogging on the side. Let me tell you, between my work to-do list, my personal to-do list and my blog to-do list, some days are very long and tiring, but it somehow all manages to get done!

Here are my three biggest organizational tips and the (adorable) Ashley Brooke Designs pieces that get me through the day:

Tip #1: Surround yourself with inspiring things.

If I don't have a clean workspace, fresh notebook, great pen or pencil and a killer playlist, I can't get much work done. For me, my surroundings are everything, and they either make or break my work. Before I leave the office every day, I clean up my desk -- I literally remove any dishes, wipe down my keyboard, organize my stuff and clean up my computer before I take off for the day. Having a clean workspace allows me to do better work.

I also pick notebooks, pencils and mugs with inspirational quotes on them -- it's totally mental, but looking down at them throughout the day is a nice little reminder to keep going.

Tip #2: Make To-Do Lists (and then make more).

I live by my to-do lists. Typically, I write them out vs. keeping them on my computer (I work better with physical lists and like the action of actually crossing something out -- it's very satisfying). This Ashley Brooke Designs notebook is perfect -- it's adorable, inspiring and has enough room for me to make my work to-do lists, blog to-do lists and personal to-do lists. Plus, this pencil set allows me to check things off in style.

Pro Tip: make to-do lists at the end of the day vs. the beginning. Each night before I leave the office, I take 10 minutes to jot down ~5 things I want to accomplish the next day. Walking into the office in the morning knowing I already know my goals for the day allows me to jump straight into work and be more productive throughout the day.

Tip #3: Know When to Take a Break.

This is definitely the most important tip of mine for how to stay organized. Staying on top of your life is a skill, and it's one that comes with a lot of practice and in time. Over the past few years, I've learned when I need to take a break. Every hour (at least) I get up from my desk and walk around. Whether it's just to grab another glass of water in the kitchen (this is a great way to drink more water throughout the day), a walk to lunch or just a quick stretch break, I make an effort to take these breaks every hour. Bonus: if you have an Apple Watch, it will remind you when to move throughout the day (this is my favorite feature!).

And, know when you need more than just a quick water break. Every day, I try to walk around my neighborhood to go grab coffee, either by myself for some silence or with a co-worker to have a 1:1 or hear about their day. Lastly, at the end of the day, know when to fill that cute mug with wine and celebrate a day well done - you deserve it!
