My 2018 Intentions
Is anyone else really over the term "resolutions"? I feel like it's so cliché at this point to even make a list of resolutions, because no one ever actually sticks to them.
I've been doing a lot of thinking this holiday break about the intentions I have for 2018 to make it a more purposeful year. Instead of "work out more" or "eat less sugar", I'm going to intentionally set out to make a few lifestyle changes that will lead to a happier, healthier me.
Here are the intentions I'm setting for the year ahead:
one // slow down
I am a go-go-go person. I'm most comfortable when I'm moving 100 miles a minute, but when I slow down to sit, and think, I get uncomfortable. That's probably why you can mostly find me working, working on my blog, on social media, talking, or watching something on TV: I like to be constantly doing something.
But 2017 exhausted me—and while I'm sure some of that had to do with the never-ending news cycle—some of it also came from me exhausting myself. I tend to push until I can't push anymore (I'm either at 100% or 0), and I want to get more comfortable saying no to work, turning off notifications and my TV/phone/computer, and just being.
How I'll do this: read more, walk more, listen to more music, turn off notifications, turn off the TV.
two // get out more
This sounds crazy, but I'm a homebody, and I'm my happiest when I'm curled up on the couch at home. In 2018 I want to get out of my comfort zone a little, try new things in our amazing city, and even travel more. I have the rest of my life to curl up on the couch, and I want to get out and try new things next year.
How I'll do this: make a list of local places I want to go to, and commit to doing one new thing per week. And, make a list of weekend spots to visit in our own backyard!
three // try new foods
Those of you who know me in real life know that I am one of the pickiest eaters... ever. I don't currently eat fish, pork, and a lot of different vegetables. But I feel like I'm limiting myself, and I want to get out of the boundaries I've set for myself a bit and try new things. Cheers to doing more of that in 2018!
How I'll do this: try one new food each week.
