My 5 Winter Beauty Must-Haves

Years ago, I used to rotate between the exact same products, year-round. But as I've gotten older, I've learned that I have to customize my beauty and skincare routine to the season—my skin in the winter needs a little extra love.

Here are my five winter beauty must-haves:

one // a thick nighttime moisturizer

I have a fairly normal complexion, but during the winter I notice my skin needs a little added moisture. This Priming Moisturizer (Rich) from Glossier is my favorite—my skin drinks it up at night!

two // a great, hydrating face mask

In the summer, it's no big deal if I don't do a face mask for weeks—or months!—at a time. But in the colder months, I notice after a week or so that my skin desperately needs an extra surge of hydration. This mask from First Aid Beauty gets used a few times a week in my house!

three // a trusty mascara, for extra thick and full lashes

'Tis the season for holiday parties galore, and I need a mascara that I can count on to keep my lashes thick and full all day and night long. This mascara from Chanel is really my only makeup "splurge"—only a few coats and my lashes look great.

four // a great red lip color

I don't wear a ton of lipstick normally, but I love few things more than a bold red lip around the holidays. There's something so classic and timeless about a perfect, cherry red hue (especially since I'm so pale, it really pops!). This color from Smith & Cult is a current favorite—plus, I love how the gloss keeps my lips moisturized (instead of a thick lipstick, which makes chapped lips way worse).

five // a hair mask

Not into hair masks? Think again. Especially in the winter months (when you're curling your hair every night for a holiday party, and when the air is bone-chillingly cold) you need to be restoring your hair's moisture with a mask. This one from Briogeo is my favorite—I leave the tub in my shower, put it on at the beginning of my shower, leave it on as I wash my face and shave, and then rinse it off right before I get out. It leaves my hair so silky and smooth!
