The 2 New Technologies Changing the Way We Do Things At Home

Around the holidays, Josh and I received two new items that have changed the way we do things at home, and I wanted to share them both with you!

1. The Amazon Echo Dot.

We traveled to Washington to see Josh's family over the holidays, and everyone in his family had gotten one of these Echo Dots in their home -- his aunt and uncle and both of his brothers. His aunt had hers in her kitchen and would add things to her shopping list and set timers with ease. Then, at his brother's apartment, they used their Dot to set timers and play music (yes, it hooks up to your speakers via Bluetooth!). By the time we were headed home, I knew we needed one.

The Dot is only $49 at Amazon (you can get the full-sized Echo for $180, but only need that if you're also going to use it for your main speakers -- we have a Jambox speaker so didn't need that big of an Echo). We've only had ours for a few weeks, but so far it's become a must-have in our house. Between setting timers, adding things to our shopping list, playing music (just say "Alexa, play The Shins" and she's off!), setting alarms, checking the forecast and asking random questions throughout the day, it's definitely worth the 50 bucks.

2. A Dyson vacuum.

This one was a gift from my dad, but if he hadn't gifted to us, I would have bought it myself. I know, I know, it's expensive. But it's 100% worth it, and using it once will help you realize thatWe live in a small apartment (~700 square feet in total) and while we don't have a dog, our small place definitely accumulates dust easily (there aren't that many corners for it to hide in) and you can tell when the hardwood floor hasn't been vacuumed in a few days. The fact that this Dyson vacuum is cordless and we can just grab it from it's charging station and go is a huge game-changer -- I can vacuum our entire apartment in under five minutes flat.

Plus, the suction on this thing is insane. It will suck dust out of every nook and cranny of your place, and does wonders on rugs -- it gets everything! Lastly, the bottom part of ours comes off, making it a hand-vacuum, which is great for cleaning our couch or other surfaces you don't need a full stick vacuum for. Highly recommend, if you're in the market for a vacuum this is the one you need!
