The 5 Pieces You Need to Have Minimalist Style

Minimalism is in for summer 2017, and I couldn't be happier about it. I'm a straight-leg jeans and white tee kind of girl, so I'm ecstatic that simplicity is #trending this season. One of the main reasons I love living in California is because I love the California cool-girl laid back look. I also like that Northern California style in particular is known for being simple and clean.

Here are five pieces you should invest in now to have a truly minimal summer:

1. Straight-leg jeans.

In California, you can wear denim pretty much everywhere. It's one of my favorite things about living here, to be honest. When choosing one pair of denim for summer, keep in mind three things: 1) a light wash, 2) a straight leg, and 3) little embellishments, whether it's a raw hem or distressing throughout. Those little details really make your jeans feel "lived in" and California cool.

2. A lived-in white tee.

Whether it's a plain white tee with a crew neck or a top with some embellishment, you need a plain white tee in some form for the summer. You can dress it down during the day (with your skinny jeans and some flats) or up at night with a cute skirt and a leather jacket. Summer is all about easy, breezy versatile pieces.

3. A wicker bag.

Can I just say, this is BY FAR my favorite trend right now! Wicker bags are so chic and simple, and they're actually super functional, too. You can fit so many things in a wicker tote and just head out for a day full of summer adventures. Here are some of my faves:

4. Cheek paint.

If you truly want to be a California cool girl, you need some dewy blush to make it look like you always just got back from the beach. This cloud paint from Glossier is the perfect beauty product for summer!

5. Slides.

Hi, favorite shoes. Slides are my favorite pretty much year-round, but especially in the hot summer months. I also love how so many slides in lower price points are popping up—you can get a great pair for $30-$50!
